Stop Error Code 0xC0000221

The STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH error code has a value of 0xC0000221.stop-error-code-0xc0000221

This indicates a fatal error in a Driver, System DLL or in a System File. As a result, your Operating System crashes and you have encountered BSOD (blue screen of death) screen with error code 0xC0000221.

Moreover, Mechanical Failure in hardware might be at fault. You should also keep in mind that probably the system crash was triggered by the Infected Page or File.

There are a couple of solutions for this problem.

Solution 1:- Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) Option

This method should work when all other options are good for nothing.

The ERD allows you to do most of the system repairs, such as of the system files, boot sector, startup environment, Troubleshooting and Automatic Windows Repair, etc.

The ERD does not back up any of your data, programs, or the registry. Also, it's not a replacement for any regular system backups.

In order to create and use an Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) check other resources, as it is again a very vast topic. In this article, we mainly focus on removing this error.

Solution 2 :- Check and Repair Disk Errors

Disk errors might be either caused by corrupted software or damaged hardware. So there could be a possibility that you don’t have access to your computer or its not working the way it's supposed to.

Computer is Working:-

  • Press Windows Key on the keyboard.
  • Type CMD
  • Do right click on CMD and click on Run as Administrator.
  • Type Chkdsk /f /r. Reboot the system to start the scan process.

Computer not Working:-

  • Remove the hard disk from the current computer and insert it into another computer.
  • Start the Second computer to Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
  • Type Chkdsk /f /r. Reboot the system to start the scan process.

Solution 3 :- Perform a Clean Boot

In the Clean boot, we try to disable all services and software at startup except the system services. This will ensure that if there is any application or software creating conflicts.

  1. Press the "Win+R" keys to open Run, type "msconfig", and press Enter to open System Configuration.
  2. In the General tab of System Configuration, select (dot) Selective Startup, and only uncheck Load Startup Items. (Load System Services keep it checked)
  3. Click/tap on the Services Tab in System Configuration, check the Hide all Microsoft Services box and click on Disable all.
  4. Then also disable all Startup Items.
  5. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.

Solution 4 :- Reinstall the Operating System

In above solutions, we have covered most of the steps for troubleshooting. This includes repairing the Operating System in ERD.

If in case the issue is still there then you might need to Reinstall the Operating System.
